Asteroid Dodger - Improve your game jam


I signed asteroid dodger up for a 72 hour jam where you must improve your game and bring it closer to a better product.

Day 1:

Some feedback i got was to make the playing field a lot bigger so i have zoomed out the camera here is how it looks now.

Also there has been some changes made to the general UI in the game mainly being a new cursor that is now more noticeable and the environment in the different menus.


Here is how the menus look now:


Some thing i have not been a fan of for a while is the lighting so i have put some effort into making the game lighting look a lot nicer and easier on the eye. The way i did this was by increasing the falloff intensity on all of the light sources in the game.


Day 2:

Changes to the jump - I have made the jump feel less floaty by increasing the drag on the player.

There has been some more changes to the Ui and the font has been changed so it looks like a lot of a smoother white now with no black outline.

I have been focusing on polish a lot so the effects on jump have been changed.

The asteroids also have a new explode effect and i feel that it looks a lot better now.


Difficulty improvements - Many people thought that the game was quite easy so i decreased the spawn time between asteroids and they now have a larger range for the sizes they can spawn in at.

I also have a new sound effect now for when you touch the end of the screen and it sends you to the other side.

I used Audacity to modify the sound effect.

Optimization made to support a higher range of devices.

Control Support:

New buttons support added for W to jump and Up arrow.

Also something fun i added was that time slows down on death to show that it has had an impact.

Day 3:
